Differences between SSL certificates

We offer four types of SSL certificates, each of which is explained below:

  • Domain SSL
  • Wildcard SSL
  • Business EV SSL

Note first that:

  • It is not possible to secure several domain names with a single certificate because the SSL certificate is created to secure a single domain name.
  • It is not possible to secure multiple servers with a single certificate because the SSL certificate is created from the CSR key " Certificate Signing Request" which must be generated by the server that hosts the domain name in question. However, it is possible to find from other external providers types of certificates that allow you to have several licenses that can be installed on servers while keeping the same certificate in use.
  • An SSL certificate ensures the integrity and encryption of information exchanged between the client and the server. Thus, no person or malicious program will have visibility on the sensitive information exchanged during the various transactions made online when using the https protocol. However, an SSL certificate installed on your site can never protect it against various attacks and viruses.

Domain SSL

This is the fastest and most economical solution that allows you to activate your certificate within 30 minutes. The only condition is that you are the owner of the domain name. The security level is not strong, only the domain appears in the certificate.

To activate a Domain SSL certificate, you must specify the domain and then :

- Generate the CSR on the server on which you want to install the certificate.

- Make sure that one of the following email addresses belonging to the domain is functional and accessible (a confirmation email will be sent on it, you can choose one of them):

  • admin@yourdomain
  • webmaster@yourdomain
  • administrator@yourdomain
  • hostmaster@yourdomain
  • postmaster@yourdomain

- Once the keys are generated, we send them back to you so that you can install them on the web server in question. It is up to your system administrator to do this. Or you can have us do it for you as part of a managed service.

WildCard SSL

This certificate allows you to have SSL for subdomains. This option is not available in other SSL certificate packages.

Case in point:

If we have the domain toto.com, the certificate works with all subdomains such as :

  • store.toto.com
  • demo.toto.com
  • infra.toto.com
  • guide.toto.com
  • etc...

Be careful with the wildcard, it only guarantees one level of subdomains.

In other words, the certificate will not work with version1.demo.toto.com and version2.demo.toto.com, nor with premiere.infra.toto.com and deuxième.infra.toto.com.

To get these pennies sous-domainsYou need to order two Wildcard certificates each;

one for *.demo.toto.com and one for *.infra.toto.com.

To activate a Wildcard SSL certificate, you must specify the domain or subdomain, then :

- Generate the CSR on the server on which you want to install the certificate.

- Make sure that one of the following email addresses belonging to the domain is functional and accessible (you will receive a confirmation email on it, you can choose one of them):

  • admin@yourdomain
  • webmaster@yourdomain
  • administrator@yourdomain
  • hostmaster@yourdomain
  • postmaster@yourdomain

- We send you back the generated keys so that you can install them on the web server in question. It is up to your system administrator to do this. Or you can have us do it for you as part of an outsourcing arrangement.

Business EV_SSL

This certificate is dedicated to companies - can be activated in a minimum of two weeks.

This certificate dedicated to companies is the ultimate level of SSL certification. It takes a minimum of two weeks to activate. It allows you to activate the green label with your organization's name in the browser's address bar. This certification proves that your site has a high guarantee following an infinitely strict verification procedure.

In this certificate, the SSL organization deepens the checks and searches for the company in the various directories available on the Internet (such as the yellow pages). It will contact the company by calling the telephone number listed in the directories. This number must be functional. If not, the certificate cannot be activated.

Both the anonymous whois and the RGPD protection must be disabled on your domain.

To activate a Business EV SSL certificate, you must specify the domain and then :

- Generate the CSR on the server on which you want to install the certificate.

- Waiting for verification of your contact information on a free directory. For this, you will need to provide us with a link that displays your company's contact information. This link must be present on a free directory such as yellow page.

- The domain name's whois link must have the same contact information displayed on the free directory. If this is not the case, request a change of ownership of the domain name before ordering this certificate.

- EV SSL documents will be sent to you by email, you will have to fill them in and send them back to the address of the certification body in response to the same email.

- Waiting for the phone call: the certification body will contact you on the phone number displayed on the free directory (a crucial step imposed by this organization).

- Make sure that one of the following email addresses belonging to the domain is functional and accessible (you will receive a confirmation email on it, you can choose one of them):

  • admin@yourdomain
  • webmaster@yourdomain
  • administrator@yourdomain
  • hostmaster@yourdomain
  • postmaster@yourdomain

- Finally, once the keys are generated, we send them back to you so that you can install them on the web server in question. It is up to your system administrator to do this. Or you can have us do it for you as part of a managed service.
