Plesk: Add a domain alias

In this guide, we will see how to add a domain alias.

Note

This guide is dedicated only to our subscribers who have subscribed to the former Plesk shared hosting packages (SMART, DISCOUNT, PRO and SECURE).

What is a domain alias?

An alias is a domain name that will be linked to your accommodation. It displays the same website as your domain and does not have separate web statistics. An alias is often for professional use to have more than one web address for advertising or commercial purposes.

Why add a domain alias?

  • Your main hosting is toto.com.
  • You have ordered toto.fr, toto.org and toto.net.
  • You want to redirect each domain to toto.com.
  • You want www.toto.fr to display the content of www.toto.com to the user while keeping www.toto.fr in the address bar.
  • You want www.toto.org and www.toto.net to display to the user the content of www.toto.com while keeping www.toto.org and www.toto.net in the address bar respectively.
  • You do need to create a domain name alias.

Add a domain alias

The first thing to do is to go to your client interface which you can find the link to on our showcase site. Once there, click on Plesk > My Plesk (Manage my subscription) > menu Websites & Domains > Add a domain alias.

Put the domain you want to point to your main hosting and validate.

Our alias is created, we now need to set the DNS pointer so that the site (alias) is accessible on the Internet. For this it is necessary to recover the IP of your main hosting.

You cannot FTP to a domain name alias until there is a linked hosting space.
