Plesk: Change the password for my MySQL database

In this guide we will see how to change the password of a MySQL database from the Plesk interface.

Note

This guide is dedicated only to our subscribers who have subscribed to the old shared hosting Plesk (SMART, DISCOUNT, PRO and SECURE offer).

CMS

If you have installed a CMS (such as WordPress / Drupal / Joomla / prestashop / other), it is not recommended to change the password or the username of the database because it will break your whole site and will display instead of the homepage an error message indicating that access to the database can not be established.

Plesk Access

The first thing to do is to go to your client interface which you can find the link to on our showcase site. Once there, click on Plesk > My Plesk (Manage my subscription) > menu Databases.

Change the password

You can either click on the link User management then the user name in question. Or click directly on the username of the database.

Change the database password

The interface gives you a hand not only to change the password, but also the username. You can use the Generate and View to have the system help you set up a strong and secure password.

Validate via the button OK for the modification to be taken into account.
